Active Minds

Printed in rpm Magazine, December 1999

It has been said that children have the most active minds. As they grow, creativity is enhanced through their imagination. They are deeply influenced by people and their environment.

Much like that of a child, the truck driver's mind is most active. They don't just drive along without care. The wheels in the mind of a trucker are turning faster than the 18 wheels underneath them. They make a mental log of the family they left at home and of their pending destination. Determined drivers balance the wheels and keep on rolling. With the responsibility of arriving at their destination in a timely manner, they must utilize their imaginations to see themselves there beforehand. Truckers constantly rearrange time through their imagination by visualizing probable delays.

Some people are under the impression that truckers are simple-minded, warm bodies behind the wheel. When in fact they may very well be the most thoughtful, considerate, constructive people in the world today. Indeed, there is a powerful force in the driver's seat.
